The bar chart illustrates the average number ofstudents per class in primary school and lower secondary school in sixdifferent countries and compares them with the world average class size in2006.
For the two Asian countries, classsize in lower secondary school exceeded that in primary school, which wasopposite the world average category. South Korea’s class sizewas the largest compared with the other five given countries, with 34 inelementary school and 37 in lower secondary school. This was followed by Japan, witharound 27 in primary school and 31 in lower secondary school.
Among the four western countries, Mexico’s secondaryschools had the largest class size of 32 students, while its primary schoolshad far less pupils in a class (about 21), similar to the figures of the samecategory in UK and Denmark. Whereas Iceland, in terms of the class size in both primary schooland lower secondary school, ranked at the bottom, with about 15 and 17 studentsper class respectively.
To sum up, Asian countries such as South Korea andJapan had a larger class size than the global average, while the average class sizes inwestern countries were much smaller, except for Mexico whose class size inmiddle schools outnumbered world average size.

以下为重点话题及范文解析:
题目:Somepeople think that university students should specialize in one subject, whileothers think universities should encourage students to learn a range ofsubjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Today, many people believe that college studentsshould focus on one field of study, while a lot others argue that they shouldbe encouraged to widened their scope of learning.
The arguments for concentrating on one specificdiscipline are valid. For one thing, it allows students to devote more time and energy to theirspecialized subject while relieving them from extra burden possibly caused bythe study of multiple fields. With this intensive study, students are morelikely to explore their chosen field in depth and achieve academic excellence. For another, specializing in one subject could better equip college studentswith the knowledge and skills required of that subject-specific career, thusgiving them a head startin the job market. For example, whether a candidate has a four-year study in acertain subject constitutes as a significant factor for many job positions, such as data scientists, lawyers and doctors.
Meanwhile, extending one’s study to multiple fieldshas its own advantages. To begin with, the complexity of modern societydetermines that many subjects are by nature interdisciplinary. If students are confined toonly field of study, their knowledge could be skewed and narrow. By contrast,if they could broaden their vision in various fields, they stand a better tochance to combine different subjects for more insights. For instance, studentswho study both medical science and computer science could better explore howartificial intelligence can be applied to disease diagnosis and other medicalservices. Furthermore, universities are expected not only to cultivate academics; moreimportantly, they also shoulder the responsibility of nurturing well-developedcitizens in society. An extensive study in sciences, liberal arts, socialsciences as well as many other fields will be conducive to fostering a more knowledgeable, sensible and responsible person.
To conclude, I believe that studying one subject ormultiple ones are beneficial in their own respective. I would suggest thatstudents familiarize themselves with a wide range of subjects in their earlyuniversity years before they find their specific subject of interest andconduct an in-depth studylater.
①scope: n. 范围
②valid:adj. 有效的;正当的
③ahead start: 优势,有利条件

⑤academics: n. 学者,科研人员
⑥beconducive to: 有助于……
